What Technology Should Retailers Be Implementing for the Best In-Store Customer Experience?

Using right technology in retail store

It can be very difficult for retailers to navigate the murky waters of customer preference and intent to purchase. Gone are the simple days where standard technologies, implemented well, would admirably serve the needs of large, medium and small retailers. Fast-forward to today, where a visit to an industry trade show and a stroll through the aisles and aisles of technology options can leave any IT or merchant leader’s head spinning. What technology should be invested in? What is important, what is only a flash in the pan?

A.T. Kearney surveyed 1,000 people recently in an attempt to pin down the customer’s current mind-set regarding what technology they expect in physical stores for a great user experience. The study interestingly revealed that a vast majority of customers had not actually encountered much new or innovative technology to date.

In a recent article for Total Retail, I discuss how retailers should approach this challenge and offer solutions for implementing the right technology for the best customer experience.
