Digital Retailing, Consumer Experience & Merchandising Students Travel to NYC

Linda Mihalick attends NRF with 12 University of North Texas students

I just returned from five days in New York with 12 of our Digital Retailing, Merchandising and Consumer Experience Management students, where we attended the NRF Student Program and the NRF Big Show. This was the 5th annual trip for UNT, with the largest attendance and best agenda to date. The Student Program is a packed 2 days of business professional presentations, attended by about 750 other students from across the country.  Students this year heard thought provoking presentations from Chris Baldwin, CEO of BJ’s Wholesale Club, Buddy Teaster, CEO of Soles4Soles and Lindsey Roy, CMO of Hallmark Greetings who shared her inspirational story. The weekend event is also attended by many college recruiters, where an on-site job fair is held as well as opportunities to interview for internships and permanent jobs.

Since we were in the city that never sleeps, students took full advantage of the many things to do, see and eat.  Kohl’s annually takes over the ice skating rink at Rockefeller Center Friday night, allowing all the Texans to try their hand at gliding on the ice. Students visited SoHo, Little Italy, Chinatown, The Met, Chelsea, Times Square, Glossier and made sure to snag some souveniers.

MDR students must be members of NRFSA and apply in the fall each year to go on the trip, with preference given to Juniors and Seniors.  Applications for the 2020 trip will open in October.
